Task Force Hanjin

July 29, 2008 The Editor Philippine Star Dear Editor: Your news story on page 18 of your July 16, 2008 issue entitled "Task Force Hanjin members quit after 13th worker" has somehow put the members in bad light. The story is misleading. Indeed, we, the task force members, resigned but not quitted. We resigned because we saw the need to strengthen and expand the task force on Hanjin by including as members all interested sectors of the community, something that was not possible if we remained under the Office of the Governor. There as a local law - Executive Order No. 1 Series of 2007 - that limits the membership only to six people. We resigned because we saw the need to have an independent task force to force those responsible for causing the many problems in Hanjin concerning people's rights and environmental protection to accept responsibility, correct the errors and improve the situation. We resigned because we have already successfully formed an independent, strengthen

Juan: Peste ang ABS-CBN Olongapo, may balak pa sirain ang TV namin, bigla na lang lumalakas at humihina ang istasyon nila, they're the one filtering the show kaya they're the one to blame, masyado ad ang ginagawa nila sa MAG TV show nila, wala naman wenta, Juan: everytime na ini-air commercial ng MAG TV bigla na lang tumutodo ang volume, ABS CBN Olongapo is the one to be blame kc they're in control of everything, ABS CBN main relies on paid advertisement in commercials, tapos winawalang hiya lang ng regional Juan: network station nila like the one here in GAPO. Pwede ba wag nyo sirain mga TV sets namin dito sa bigla na lang paglakas ng volume at biglang paghina nito, sinasabotahe nyo pa ang ibang shows by inserting clips ng kung ano ano kahit iba ang nakaere, Juan: ..only shows how poor technical staffs(who may not have expertise on that field, i presume) you have...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr TheClown: what is half/half john??? From anthony_judah Before we question the justice system against this foreigner to a fair trial and all. What about that poor 18 year old girl that was sexually molested while she walked towards the main gate at 2am. She had just come from a restaurant and accosted by 5 police-- Pinoys!!! They forced her clothes off, took 8,000php, and molested her with handcuffs on. These people are supposed to protect us!! What is the gov't going to do about that? Are they going to hide it, or maybe bribe the girl not to press charges? Why not have big protest about that!! Why just this foreigner. Our gov't needs to get it's ??? out ??? their ???. A crime like this should not go unpunished regardless who or what they are! I feel sorry for that young girl. Now, when I go on sbma I will be watching the polic whom I thought was supposed to be watching me for my safety! I am sorry, but, we need to police ourselves before we make claims to our innocence!!
John has left a new comment on post " Nuns: No to reversal of ‘Nicole’ ruling ": Posted by John to Olongapo Subic News at 7/25/2008 10:41 AM I am wondering if the Immaculate heart of Mary is all Filipinas. Seems to me that now groups like these are getting invovled with this case and wonder why now. I am wondering WHY they or ANY religious groups NEVER came forward when this case was in court? How can the IHM come out and speak out without knowing if the truth has been heard or provided in this case? As I said, if the facts were ALL there and NO evidance was hidden or people lied or threaten in any way to lie, then the outcome will be fair. But to this day, I think this case was a joke and the world has seen how the Philippines continues to fail when it comes to proper justice for ALL. This case is no different then the cases against the former Presidents and others who continue to, live free due to the connections they have. Fair is fair and I think Smith did not get a fai

Here is how I see it.If Smith is found guilty, the... Here is how I see it. If Smith is found guilty, then he does the time.. If these two justices have asked to be removed from this case, WHY??? Could it be that maybe, just maybe there is something missing from this case? Could it be that maybe, just maybr Smith did NOT get a fair trail/ Or could it be that these two justices did not want to be pressureed into making a bad choice for the case? As many have said from the beginning, this case has two many holes in it and to many people both both in PI and many other countries feel that this case was not done correctly. Only this Filipina and Smith know in their hearts what happened that night. This Filipina due to pressure from the local SBMA/Police and even her family maybe making a bad choice sending this young men to prison for a long time. If she lied, then when she meets her maker, she will then pay the price for these lies. If Smith lied, he also will meet his maker in the end. Bo

gaestes3 < gaestes3@yahoo.com > you can walk down any street - the highway even, and witness industrial practices that are borderline insanity - everyday, everywhere you go. the first solution for prevention of all the accidents would be to have these industrialist join in a concerted GLOBAL effort to educate its employees in the proper execution of ALL tasks undertaken at their facilities. regardless of how 'dad' does it or the way they do it at the neighborhood, one man shop, saftey should be the first concern as soon as one steps up and into the industrial labor arena. take care, arrive home to your wife and family every night, and insure the rest of your co-workers the same in kind.

Comment on Akbayan's remark

We have high regards for the congresswoman representing Akbayan but we just could not agree when she said that President Arroyo betrayed the workers by gracing the occasion of inaugurating the first ship made by Hanjin shipbuilders. It was a real pride and honor for this new generation of workers - a new breed of shipbuilders - to have completed a ship ahead of schedule and performed way beyond expectations. For the highest official of the land to have commended this feat is an honor that we wish to cherish for the rest of our lives, its so unconsiderate for the congresswoman to have used the death of our co-workers and made such unti-climactic remarks. We are the group of welders that completed the PGMA Scholarship for Work Program, while we are not saying that we are supporters of the president . . May utang ng loob po kami sa naturang programa ng Presidente at ni Mayor Bong Gordon. We hope that our countrymen understand that this is a major project and that there are safety and empl
