Articles of prohibited importation are enumerated in Section 102 of the same Code. I am not aware of any law prohibiting the importation of luxury cars. Without such law, the cars cannot be classified as contraband and therefore beyond the scope of Section 2609. Besides, what illegal activities in the future is the DOJ speaking of when the illegal act of smuggling (of goods the importation of which is not necessarily prohibited) happened in the past? winniefang

I think Ramon Tulfo has a point there about Sen. Richard Gordon being very much qualified to be the country’s president. (“They forget about Dick Gordon,” Inquirer, 8/9/07) When the Americans left Subic and Clark, my friends and I, new graduates from the University of the Philippines, were inspired by what Gordon did at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and by how he pushed his constituents to move on their own. Quite a departure from typical “Pinoy” anxiety over the post-US bases scenario. I believe the man is a “mover-shaker,” and we need someone who can kick all of us into action. GRACE REYES (via email)

As a car lover, that was quite upsetting for me and I believe it was an act of lunacy even if none of them were mine.

Has anyone bothered to check to see if these vehicles were stolen from other countries? It is very common for vehicles stolen in the U.S. to be shipped overseas. I would like to give my thanks to Mr. Tulfo, for he knows how to recognize what Gordon has done for the country most especially in Olongapo because myself is from Olongapo. I would say no one really has done what our "Dick Gordon" have done in the past. Dick Gordon is my favorite in the political field. And I wish him to be the future Philippine President. I am Filipino presently working here in a very far Cuba. And one thing, when he will become a President, for sure he might be a big help for those OFW workers who wants to be working in the Philippines rather than overseas just to be with their beloved families.
