HANJIN SAFETY

I will have to disagree with Guest SmartBro user... Filipino shipbuilders are world-class The problem w/ Hanjin is that they are not providing appropriate safety training to workers hired from provices.. They focus too much on production ... neglecting safety in the process If you will check the 18 fatal accidents in Hanjin-Subic, you will learn that none of those were caused by a worker trained by the Olongapo Skills Training Center... You can safely deduce therefore that the Safety Training, including motivation and work ethics were properly inculcated at this training center w/c by the way is a TESDA KABALIKAT Awardee The combined shipyard Knowledge, Skill, Ability and Experience of trainors at Olongapo Training Center is more than 100 years!!! and this represented a zero wasted time injury. While Hanjin have good safety mannuals... their trainors.... being new to the job.... does not have required experience and moral ascendancy to impart an effective Safety Training To conclude, I...

comment on post "SBMA orders probe vs Hanjin

SBMA orders probe vs Hanjin over deaths of 2 worke... ": John has left a new comment on your post "SBMA orders probe vs Hanjin over deaths of 2 worke...": I am sorry for the lose to these two families as for the others that have died at this new shipyard. It is very upsetting to me that the Philippines Gov't and the SBMA in its energy to bring in more investments to the old Subic Naval Bases, that it has FAILED to fully hold accountable these companies with strict safety rules and laws. To me, I think Hanjin is and has FAILED to take ANY corrective actions on their POOR safety practices. How many Filipinos are going to be killed until the Philippines Gov't takes any actions???? FOr me, I think each famliy that has a death in Hanjin should be awarded $500,000.00 in cash. Until Hanjin is held to a higher standard in the safety of all its workers, then they should be hit in their profits... I would also put those that FAIL to take the appropriate actions to correct ...

SBMA warns Hanjin contractors

MICHAEL STOREMSKI wrote: ( on SBMA warns Hanjin contractors ) SBMA talk's a big talk, but its all talk. Look at there contract with Hajin and they will not be held liable because it can't be blame for the subcontractor poor saftey. Hajin doesn't have safty officers to stop work? Of course they do, But that would hurt their profits. Filipino's will always be treated as throw away trash. Untill SBMA and the Goverment stand up to big business and hold all companies liable for the safty of there workers. The goverment is scared that big and small companies will leave the philippines and take there business some place els. ha ha ha Look what the gverment did to the US Military. There gone, The land is still there and everything move on, What, don't forget SBMA!!! The rules that Dick Gordon make are to protected of business, How many workers are black mailer not to get another job after a company closes there contract, but can't get aonther job or will be black liste...
adjoining to my email yesterday, that, Safety Officers of Hanjin Must be directly criminal liable and must be punish according to Criminal Law, and what will be the outcome of the Investigation, not necessary to suspend the Licensed to Operate of Hanjin Shipbuilding, however, they should compensate the victims on very reasonable amount plus the benefits to be given to the family and even educational scholarship to be granted in the children,if any. The issue of suspension might be consider on the third time of negligence or even revoke their Licensed to Operate because what we are protecting here is the Lives of every Filipino workers, Economically, if the yard will be suspended for six months of there Licensee to Operate, many Filipino workers as well the family will be suffering economically and we have to remember, the workers have a family to support considered the situation of the Country today is in crisis and about six million people has been jodless. This is a win-win solution...
It's really sad to know accidents like these (HANJIN) happens specially in a shipyard. Constant education and training updates are major keys to execute safety awareness. Even here Ed at E&J Gallo Winery, we are really very strict in implementing safety awareness thru our Behavior Based Safety (BBS) program. Important things like the lockout/tagout procedures of any electrical, machineries, proper lifting and lowering is a must, otherwise lose your life or you lose your job. Butch Fermil
