HANJIN SAFETY

I will have to disagree with Guest SmartBro user... Filipino shipbuilders are world-class The problem w/ Hanjin is that they are not providing appropriate safety training to workers hired from provices.. They focus too much on production ... neglecting safety in the process If you will check the 18 fatal accidents in Hanjin-Subic, you will learn that none of those were caused by a worker trained by the Olongapo Skills Training Center... You can safely deduce therefore that the Safety Training, including motivation and work ethics were properly inculcated at this training center w/c by the way is a TESDA KABALIKAT Awardee The combined shipyard Knowledge, Skill, Ability and Experience of trainors at Olongapo Training Center is more than 100 years!!! and this represented a zero wasted time injury. While Hanjin have good safety mannuals... their trainors.... being new to the job.... does not have required experience and moral ascendancy to impart an effective Safety Training To conclude, I...

Hanjin destroys the enviroment

John has left a new comment on your post " AKBAYAN Solon Slams DOLE for Hanjin Deaths Cover-u... ": Here is a story that was in the news in May 2008 that was passed to many sites. I am going to bet that the MOD on here again will fail to post this comment a it does not benefit the site here. Hanjin destroys the enviroment Recently, a series of anomalies concerning Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction, a South Korean company, have dominated the headlines of Manila newspapers. Considering that billions of dollars were involved in these transactions, "transparency" has once again come to the forefront of debate. Like the Chinese contracts -- NBN-ZTE, Cyber Ed, Fuhua, etc. -- which the Arroyo government negotiated secretly, it would seem that the same modus operandi may have been used in negotiating the Hanjin contracts. The first Hanjin shipyard was built in the Subic Bay Freeport in 2006 at a cost of $1.7 billion. A few weeks ago, it launched the first ship -- a ...

BLOOD SHIPS

TO SBMA OFFICIALS AND HANJIN: IF SBMA WILL ALLOW HANJIN TO CONTINUE TO PRODUCE BLOODY SHIPS, THE PHILIPPINES AND SUBIC BAY PARTICULARLY WILL SOON BE KNOWN TO THE WORLD AS BLOODY SHIP PRODUCER. THIS HAS A BACKLASH IN THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY AND POPULATION. WHO WILL WANT TO BE BUYING BLOOD SHIPS FROM THE PHILIPPINES, PRODUCED BY HANJIN !!! . PERSONALLY I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE SHIP THAT I WILL BE BOARDING ON IS PRODUCED CLEAN WITHOUT USE OF CHEAP AND SLAVE LABOR, NOT PRODUCED CAUSING THE DEATH OF MANY AND NOT IN THE MOST UNFAIR TRADING PRACTICES IN THE SAME WAY THAT A REASONABLE PERSON WOULD LIKE TO BE ASSURED THAT THE COFFEE HE DRINKS, THE FOOD HE CONSUMES AND THE CLOTHES HE WEARS ARE NOT PRODUCED WITH BLOOD AND TEARS, CAUSED NUMEROUS DEATH, AND IN THE MOST UNFAIR TRADING PRACTICES. SBMA orders probe vs Hanjin over deaths of 2 worke... ": John has left a new comment on your post "SBMA orders probe vs Hanjin over deaths of 2 worke...": I am sorry for the lose to these two families as for the others that have died at this new shipyard. It is very upsetting to me that the Philippines Gov't and the SBMA in its energy to bring in more investments to the old Subic Naval Bases, that it has FAILED to fully hold accountable these companies with strict safety rules and laws. To me, I think Hanjin is and has FAILED to take ANY corrective actions on their POOR safety practices. How many Filipinos are going to be killed until the Philippines Gov't takes any actions???? FOr me, I think each famliy that has a death in Hanjin should be awarded $500,000.00 in cash. Until Hanjin is held to a higher standard in the safety of all its workers, then they should be hit in their profits... I would also put those that FAIL to take the appropriate actions to correct ...

Hanjin Security

To Whom It May Concern: I Arwin Payumo Osorio , Resident of kalaklan Olongapo City, would like to file a complaint regarding HHIC-PHIL Security Patrol, it happened last May 14, 2008 at 12:55 AM. While having our break time at hanjin ship building at pre-out fitting shop (Bldg.) 9 workers of hanjin had experienced a GUN POINTING from Patig guys, one person was only wearing shorts and sandals. Two workers had experience harassment, brutality and were physical abused from the RED SAFETY PATROL. They made a saddening action that put us in a critical situation! They turned off the light and came in our shop while some of my co workers were still asleep, they came in with a riffle pointed it at us and forced us to get down to our working place which is block # 1509. They forced us to get down on the floor. Two of us experienced this. One of them kicked my back to force me to get down on the floor and chained us. They hadn't told us anything so we were still wondering what was going on! A...

Hanjin Subic Malaria

To claim that Malaria is caused by a virus contracted from the Hanjin working invironment is an outrageous lie claimed by the Governor of Zambales then extort P50,000 per burial of a worker as claimed to have been paid for a private citizen. Plasmodium falciparum is not a virus as the Governor claims it. Plasmodium falciparum is passed on to people by mosquitoes which has previously beaten a person suffering from malaria. It is the Zambales mosquitoes which are indigenous to the province as far as I can remember and they could not have come from Korea. Believe me they they are not viruses - they are huge elongated one-celled creatures with pointed ends and a nucleus in the middle. To blame Hanjin for the mosquito bite and a mistreatment at a hospital is a crime. Likewise: To bar the local workers from earning a living is a bigger crime. ...truly, Edmo Cayaban

SBMA warns Hanjin contractors

MICHAEL STOREMSKI wrote: ( on SBMA warns Hanjin contractors ) SBMA talk's a big talk, but its all talk. Look at there contract with Hajin and they will not be held liable because it can't be blame for the subcontractor poor saftey. Hajin doesn't have safty officers to stop work? Of course they do, But that would hurt their profits. Filipino's will always be treated as throw away trash. Untill SBMA and the Goverment stand up to big business and hold all companies liable for the safty of there workers. The goverment is scared that big and small companies will leave the philippines and take there business some place els. ha ha ha Look what the gverment did to the US Military. There gone, The land is still there and everything move on, What, don't forget SBMA!!! The rules that Dick Gordon make are to protected of business, How many workers are black mailer not to get another job after a company closes there contract, but can't get aonther job or will be black liste...
adjoining to my email yesterday, that, Safety Officers of Hanjin Must be directly criminal liable and must be punish according to Criminal Law, and what will be the outcome of the Investigation, not necessary to suspend the Licensed to Operate of Hanjin Shipbuilding, however, they should compensate the victims on very reasonable amount plus the benefits to be given to the family and even educational scholarship to be granted in the children,if any. The issue of suspension might be consider on the third time of negligence or even revoke their Licensed to Operate because what we are protecting here is the Lives of every Filipino workers, Economically, if the yard will be suspended for six months of there Licensee to Operate, many Filipino workers as well the family will be suffering economically and we have to remember, the workers have a family to support considered the situation of the Country today is in crisis and about six million people has been jodless. This is a win-win solution...
It's really sad to know accidents like these (HANJIN) happens specially in a shipyard. Constant education and training updates are major keys to execute safety awareness. Even here Ed at E&J Gallo Winery, we are really very strict in implementing safety awareness thru our Behavior Based Safety (BBS) program. Important things like the lockout/tagout procedures of any electrical, machineries, proper lifting and lowering is a must, otherwise lose your life or you lose your job. Butch Fermil

new comment on "Deloso Issues EO Creating Task Force Hanjin

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post " Deloso Issues EO Creating Task Force Hanjin ": No problem in creating a taskforce Hanjin, but to be headed by the former Vice Governor of Zambales Lacbain? Is he the same Lacbain who just ran in the recent elections for Congressman of the 1st district of Zambales against Mitos Magsaysay and LOST? If YES, I suggest the good governor Dellosa review the Local Gov't Code of 1991 , Sec 94 which states that EXCEPT for losing candidates in the barangay elections, no candidate who lost in any election shall. within one year after such election, be APPOINTED to ANY OFFICE in the GOVERNMENT or any gov't owned or controlled corporations or in any of their subsidiaries. NOW, unless TASK FORCE HANJIN is a PRIVATE ORGANIZATION, go ahead.
